F.W. Sweet, 220 Riverdale Rd. – secretary-treasurer of the Zeller Corp. and a board member of the Defiance Hospital – died at 6:45 a.m. today at his home. He was 60.
Sweet was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Toledo. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy E. Sweet. In 1940 he married Dorothy Kiff, Toledo, who survives. He graduated that year from Miami University at Oxford, served as a lieutenant senior grade with the U.S. Navy in the North Africa and Pacific campaigns during World War II, and worked for Ernst and Ernst, Toledo, from 1945 to 1952. He became a certified public accountant in 1947.
In 1952, Sweet was named secretary-treasurer of Zeller Corp., a position he held until his death. He was also a member, elder and trustee of First United Presbyterian Church in Defiance, past president of the Kettenring Country Club and a board member of the hospital and the Defiance Home Saving and Loan Association.
Other memberships included the Maumee Investment Club, the Ohio Society of CPAs, and Sigma Chi fraternity.
He had been ill at his home the past three months.
Surviving in addition to the widow are five children – William of San Jose, Calif., James of Toledo, Mrs. John (Sally) Leppert of Columbus, Mrs. Jack (Jean) Ehlinger of 1200 Fallen Timbers, Defiance, and Mrs. Jeff (Cindy) Miller of 922 Wilhelm, Defiance; six grandchildren; a brother, Norman of Rossford; and a sister, Mrs. Walter Devaney of Rossford.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. John Meloy will officiate. Burial will be in Ft. Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg. Calling at Mast and Mock Funeral Home is after 2 p.m. Sunday. Preferred memorials are to the church.
