BLAYNE E. SHUNK

Blayne Edward “Doc” Shunk, 80, Grantsville, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born Nov. 15, 1923, in Salisbury, Pa., he was a son of the late Edward and Della (Poleman) Shunk. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Hutzell and Dorthea Hutzell; and one brother, John Hummel.

He was a retired mechanic for H.J. Beamer, Diehl Ford and Lincoln Contracting. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Meyersdale Lodge 554, F&AM, Meyersdale Royal Arch Masons 272, York Rite, Grantsville Post 214, American Legion, and the DAV. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and elder.

Surviving are his wife, Grace (Otto) Shunk; three sons, Edward Shunk and Donald Shunk, both of Grantsville, and Richard Shunk, Salisbury; one daughter, Kathy Shaffer, Meyersdale, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville.

A service was held today, Thursday, May 6, at Trinity United Church of Christ, Grantsville, with the Rev. Dr. Philip J. Sorensen officiating.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Military graveside rites were accorded by American Legion Post 214, Grantsville.

A Masonic memorial service was held by members of the Meyersdale Lodge 554, F&AM.
