Wellston, Ohio – Louvee Theater Then and Now
I found a listing for this postcard on eBay, and immediately noticed the Louvee Theater marquee. While visiting Wellston, Ohio last summer, my mother and I took the following photo:
According to CinemaTour, the Louvee operated from 1937-2003. While once booming, the downtown area of Wellston has fallen into disrepair. My maternal grandfather, Ralph Williams Jr., graduated from Wellston High School on 5/21/40. I imagine the Louvee was very popular at that time.
Brian Davis – Christine (Williams) Davis – Ralph Scott Williams Jr.
I remember going to the movies on Sat. afternoons & watching the western cliffhangers back in the 1940s
I still remember how scared I got watching The werewolf meets Frankenstein
@Marty Sutton Did you happen to know my grandfather, Ralph “Button” Williams Jr.?
It’s closed … wow. Sitting there rotting. Abandoned theaters make me feel only slightly less weird than abandoned churches.
My Grandparents, Ruby and Alden, owned Harper’s Grocery. Does anyone remember them? Hate to hear the Love closed. Loved to go there in the 60’s when I visited.
My grandfather, Bill Darnell, took tickets and kept the “rowdies” in line at the LouVee for years. I believe Stan Ridge was his boss at the time.

I use to go to Harpers on my way to school ea day in the 60’s and 70’s, the Harpers lived n the back as most small store owners did back then love and miss them times. there were also Newmans, Daltons & Hogans on the same street. Old stumping grounds.

I remember the Louvee, free Saturday matinees for kids in the 1970’s and I remember Harper’s grocery. We used to walk to their store and the movies when we spent the summers with our grandparents, Pearl and Roselle Russell.

This is and old post but I remember your grandparents in the 40s. I played with Mary Kay. My grandmother lived across from the side of the store on Wisconsin Ave. Margaret Jacobs Neary. We would sit on her front porch swing then go over for a bottle of pop out of the cooler. I have a picture of Mary Kay and me.
