I am the granddaughter of Blayne Shunk. Both my father and I cannot remember which LCI he said he was on. I am going to visit the beaches of Normandy next weekend and am desperately trying to figure it out before I go. This site shows that he was on LCI-11, how was this confirmed? Just want to be sure before I visit the site. Please contact me if possible.
@Angela Shunk Thank you for visiting my site and posting your comment. I have sent you an email with information on your grandfather’s service.
Hi Brian – Thank you for putting this together. I just learned my grandfather, Robert Malkowski, served on this ship and I was amazed to find pictures of him through your site. My father and I really appreciate it. Could you tell me where you found the photos? I would like to search for more pictures from his time in the service but I’m not sure where to start. He was in the Navy during WWII and served as a Marine in Korea. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!
